Plans have been revealed for the spring prescribed fires the Cherokee National Forest.
Wildland firefighting crews will perform the prescribed fires on Forest Service property now thru the end of May in southeastern Tennessee proper conditions are met, according to the US Forest Service.
The Forest Service says they cannot predict the exact days and which burns will be conducted, since they must decide the day of the burn based upon current conditions.
The burns in the Cherokee National Forest help the agency better control potentially dangerous undergrowth, reducing wildfire fire hazards.
Burns will be conducted in:
Tellico Ranger District (423-397-8455) Monroe County
- Bark Camp (1,004 acres) – Between FSR 35-1, 36-1, and 442802
- Miller Ridge (4,252 acres) – Between FSR 35-1, 36-1, Ballplay Creek, FSR 284 (Rafter Rd.) and Flats Creek
- Hemlock (813 acres) – Between Hwy 165, Long Branch, Hemlock Creek and FSR 217
- Brushy Ridge (2,005 acres) – Between Hwy 165, FST 92, 93 and FSR 217
- Rough Ridge (3,200 acres) – Between FST 163, FSR 210 and Rough Ridge Creek
- Beaver Dam (2,835 acres) – Between FSR 126, 210. 24 and 40921
- Wildcat (845 acres) – Between FSR 210,384, 384C and Basin Lead
Ocoee Ranger District (423-338-3300) Polk County
- Towee/Wildcat/Loss Creek (2,653 acres) – Between FSR 2015, FSR 2016, FST 152/82 the Hiwassee River and FSR 108
