If you’re looking for a perfect example of an athlete, look no further than Signal Mountain junior Carlee Lowry.
Lowry is a Miss Basketball finalist for a Lady Eagles team that’s in the Class 3A East Region 3 championship game for a second straight season. She’s also a state champion volleyball player that helped lead Signal Mountain to their second state championship in girls’ volleyball last fall.
As for her favorite sport? Depends on the season. Right now, it’s basketball as her and the Lady Eagles have been putting together a special 2023-24 season. The team will take on Heritage in the region title game on Wednesday at East Ridge. A win, and they’ll host s sub-state game with a chance to clinch a berth in the state tournament for the first time in program history.
Signal Mountain is no stranger to this position either. The team was in this very game last year when they hosted Soddy-Daisy. It was a standing room only crowd that put girls’ basketball on the map for many fans in attendance that night. The Lady Eagles would fall short in the game. Something they’d be lying if they said it hasn’t fueled their fire this season.
Lowry credits her ability to excel at all sports that has helped her be so successful. For example, volleyball has helped her rebounding game on the basketball court. Her numbers do the talking as she’s averaging a double-double and has turned in many 30+ point games this season.
Lowry says she hasn’t forgotten that state championship winning feeling from volleyball. It’s helped drive her on the basketball court as she hopes she can help her basketball team achieve the same success as March approaches.
Signal Mountain will play Heritage in the region championship game on Wednesday at East Ridge High School at 7 p.m. A win will clinch a home sub-state game on Saturday. A loss and they’ll have to go on the road. A win in the sub-state game, home or away, will clinch them a spot in the TSSAA 3A state tournament at the Murphy Center in Murfreesboro, TN next week.
