Chattanooga 2.0 invites parents to take a Kindergarten Readiness Survey. Those who take the survey will be provided with tips, activities and resources from the nonprofit as they become available this spring.
The nonprofit focuses on connecting young talent to thriving wage career opportunities.
Jennifer Andrews is the Director of Early Childhood Strategies for Chattanooga 2.0. She said most parents don’t know if their child is kindergarten ready.
The organization wants to help by providing resources for families, so they created a Kindergarten Readiness Survey.
"We want to know their perception of their child's kindergarten-ready skills, and what they want in terms of resources to help them get their child ready for kindergarten in the year leading up to the start of kindergarten," Andrews said.
Andrews said the survey will ask parents where their child will attend school and have a list of skills that their child may or may not have achieved yet. Chattanooga 2.0 will gather answers from the survey to provide parents with free materials to help their child prepare for the start of school.
"We're going to use that to develop activities and resources for families," Andrews said. "Then we'll be sending those out digitally, via email and on social media."
Andrews said it's important to build young minds early.
"We also have lots of data and research that shows building young minds early, before kids get to kindergarten, helps them be strong learners later in their educational career," Andrews said.
She added that a strong foundation before school starts leads to success.
"We know that preparing children, pouring into them and helping them kind of blossom through activities... will help them have a strong foundation when they start kindergarten," Andrews said.
The survey will be open until the end of March. To access the survey, click here. To learn more about Chattanooga 2.0, visit chatt2.org.
